Les Fleurs du Mal

Sculpture

Metal wires, metal strips, fabric, acrylic filling, plastic restrains, duct tape. Size varies (approx. 200 x 200 cm).

2017.

I received a sewing machine as a birthday gift from my partner and decided to sew a bouquet in return. I cut petals from fabrics bought in Brussels’ Moroccan fabric shops and made the stems from metal strips and wire sourced at local DIY shops. The work draws on Giorgio de Chirico’s ‘new baroque’ flower paintings, where oversized blooms dwarf their settings – an exaggerated scale I translate into a tactile, hand-sewn piece.
